Step into the enchanting worlds of Japan’s folktales in this family-friendly event that highlights the vitality and energy of children! Families can immerse themselves in these dynamic fables through kamishibai storytelling, take in the popular Hanakappa: Adventure in the Butterfly Kingdom animation and try hands on crafts including shodo (calligraphy) and origami. Featured events includes karate workshops led by instructors from Japan Karate Association’s New York Dojo, where kids can show-off their athleticism. Parents shouldn’t miss the special storytelling workshop led by Master Storyteller Tara McGowan who teaches how to tell a better, more engaging story. There’s something for everyone at this year’s festival!
Kickin’ Karate
Kids will release their energy while learning some new karate moves with instructors from Japan Karate Association’s New York Dojo. The sessions will include kid-friendly workshops and a short demonstration of Shotokan-style karate.
Art Cart: Spring Sun Prints and Origami Time!
Make spring themed camera-less photo prints using the power of the sun and then fold seasonal origami in a workshop led by OrigamiUSA.
More Crafts and Games
Create carp streamers to celebrate Children’s Day and take shodo (Japanese calligraphy) lesson or try your hand at games such as kendama and paper sumo.
