“An Evening with Shidé Nyima ཞི་བདེ་ཉི་མ།: The Tibetan Comedian, Poet, Actor, and Filmmaker Talks About his Work”
Famous for his stage roles, comic performances and poetry, Shide Nyima is a household name in Tibetan popular culture. Wherever he walks, fans follow him. Tharlo is his first lead role in a feature film, and in agreeing to the role, for the sake and love of art, he committed to cutting his hair which he had been growing for seventeen years. Tharlo premiered at this year’s 72nd Venice Film Festival where it was nominated for the Venice Horizons Award. The film also received four nominations for the prestigious Golden Horse Awards including Best Feature Film, Best Cinematography, Best Screenplay and Best Director for Pema Tseden.
