New York Capoeira Center
107 Suffolk St., New York, NY 10002
The third installment of Dance Roulette is here – and this time we’ll be learning capoeira, a Brazilian martial art disguised as a dance. Influenced by a blend of martial arts and dances from diverse African cultures, this will be a one-of-a-kind experience combining fun, fitness, and an introduction to Afro-Brazilian culture.
Our instructor for this month’s class is Taiwanese American Lee-Sean Huang. Known as “Macarrão” (Noodle) in the capoeira world, he’s been practicing capoeira at the New York Capoeira Center since 2010, and has been teaching since 2013. He’s also the co-founder of Foossa, a community-centered strategy and design consultancy, and was profiled in TaiwaneseAmerican.org’s 100 Passionate People Project.
No previous dance or martial arts experience is necessary.
