This year marks the 35th anniversary of Sakura Matsuri, BBG’s annual cherry blossom festival. Known as New York City’s rite of spring, the weekend offers over 60 events and performances that celebrate traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.
Some of the performances include:
- BBG Parasol Society Fashion Show: Featuring live music by the Hanami Ensemble
- Samurai Sword Soul: Action-packed drama by martial arts masters
- Yuzu’s Dream: An Urban Folk Odyssey: Straight outta Nyūzen, J-pop phenomenon Yuzu is joined by choreographer and hip-hop artist Akim Funk Buddha and his Origami Dance Crew.
- Stand-up Comic Rio Koike: Rio’s Tokyo Magic Show comes to Brooklyn.
Activities include:
- Book Signings
- Art demonstrations and workshops
- Tea ceremony workshops
- Shogi and Go game play
Plus there will be shops and tents selling cosplay items, books, accessories, vintage kimonos, wall scrolls and more!
