SOB’s (Sounds of Brazil)
204 Varick St., New York, NY 10014
On Thursday, May 26th, SoHo hotspot SOB’s will play host to some of Taiwan’s up and coming pop and hip hop artists. This event is free, so come out for drinks and music!
With a girl-boy band with a progressive cute image that blends Eastern and Western sounds into pop, a heralded rapper, experienced party DJ, and more, it’s sure to be a good time.
Slated to take the stage:
Paramount (百樂門)
Boldly deconstructing and fusing traditional and Western music, Paramount turns pop music as we know it on its head. Crossing lines and breaking barriers, their sound combines classical voice background with gu zhen, er hu, pipa, and flute in an epic battle of beats. It might sound like sensory overload, but it’s a unique sound with the vision of opening up a whole new realm of performance.
Lil Man (小人)
Lil Man has always prided himself on having his own style of music – one that escapes logic and relies on keen insight to expose listeners to new phenomenon on all levels. With a diverse musical journey behind him, Lil Man brings a breakout, new kind of hip hop to the turntable.
BR aka Buzz Rhyme
Buzz is about being sensational, creating buzz and bringing attention with crazy rhymes and lyrics. Considered to be the most well recognized freestyle rapper in the Mandarin speaking world, his punchlines are known to bring audiences to their feet. At the same time, he’s not afraid to push the limits, experiment, and bring home the beat.
RPG
You might not know it, but RPG is behind many of today’s most popular songs in Asia. A lyricist at Sony, as well as a freelance discography planner and producer, RPG is a rapper that doesn’t disappoint.
Handsome (韓森)
Founder of Taiwan’s “Rapper Revolution,” Handsome represents the newest generation of Mandarin hip hop artists. With powerful lyrics and skills to boot, he’s also been heralded as the Champion of the 3rd Annual MadStreet Showdown and Champion of Diss RBL – two of Taiwan’s biggest hip hop events.
CK-700 (赤崁少年)
Previously a party MC and therefore a natural performer, CK-700 brings a unique style of rap to the table. Always ready to get the crowd pumped, he’s developed a progressive music style that has garnered accolades at Taiwan hip hop events hosted by Kung Fu Entertainment and MadStreet.
Dwagie (大支)
Dwagie’s status in Taiwan is legendary. In addition to being a staple in the local Hip Hop media, he has also received much attention from international outlets, including interviews with TIME Magazine, CNN, BBC, Reuters, The Time(UK) and multiple appearances on the Discovery channel. In his last album (released in 2012), his holiness Dalai Lama made a special appearance and the lyrics were centered around mutual respect among living beings. In 2013, he was described as the “Taiwan’s Animal Rights activists rapper”, someone that emphasizes on peace and love by JSC.
