Asia Society and Mar Creation, Inc. have been co-presenting a film festival, New York Japan CineFest (NYJCF) and screening Japanese-theme independent films from New York City to the world for four years. Their fifth annual event will be held on Thursday June 2nd and Friday June 3rd with the brand new selection of independent short films directed by emerging new young and also well-established directors. All films are in English or with English subtitles.

A special guest for the first night is Michael McAteer, the director of “Matcha: An Ippodo Story.” There will be a Q&A session after the screening with the directors, Noriko Yuasa (Girl, Wavering), Lucy Craft å(Fall Seven Times, Get Up Eight) on the second night.

New York Japan CineFest (NYJCF) was founded in 2012 by Kosuke Furukawa, (Filmmaker), Hiroshi Kono, (Event/Music producer and CEO of Mar Creation, Inc.) and Yasu Suzuki (Actor and Filmmaker), who are all based in New York City.

NYJCF was presented in eight cities, such as Boston, Washington DC and Houston TX in its 2015 season which ended this past April. In addition, NYJCF has been collaborating with film festivals in Japan; Sapporo International Short Film Festival, New Directors Film Festival and Aichi International Women’s Film Festival. They are continuing to contribute to the growth of Japanese films and to provide places for independent filmmakers to express their views.
