The Rubin Museum of Art
150 West 17th St., New York, NY 10011
Spiral Music presents acoustic music every Wednesday evening at the base of the Museum’s spiral staircase. Artists who specialize in music from the Himalayas and South Asia are invited to forge a connection between their music and the art in the galleries.
Karavika is a New York City–based chamber ensemble, led by violinist Trina Basu and cellist Amali Premawardhana, that blends the classical music of India, the folk music of the Americas, and Western classical chamber music. Karavika collaborates with Perry Wortman on bass and several Indian classical percussionists and instrumentalists. Their debut album, Sunrise, features collaborative reinterpretations of old film and folk music from South Asia. Their upcoming album, Of Earth & Sky, is a collection of songs that further explores their various musical influences and the inspiration of family and motherhood.
