Part of FringeNYC: Bad Ass Amerasian duo “Slanty Eyed Mama” will rock your world with Outrageous characters, Rock n’ roll Spoken Word, & Edgy stand-up. It’s a raucous, theatrical comedy/music concert about Asian stuff: immigration, bowl cuts, model minorities. And Hello Kitty everything.
FROM THE ARTIST:
East meets West in this mashup of stand up comedy, electric violin, rock n’ roll, spoken word and characters from iconic New York comedy and music duo Slanty Eyed Mama. It’s about race and represent-Asian: identity politics, bowl cuts, Chinatown, nail salon paradoxes, Hello Kitty hats, gay pokemons, math nerds, street vendors, those gold cats with waving arms. Meet a 40 year old Asian cheerleader, a ten thousand year old performance artist in a laundry mat, a race-undertermined / age-unknown subway vendor with big dreams under her umbrella-hat. Music is by Slanty Eyed Mama A rock n’ roll spoken word duo featuring electric violin, samples and beats by Juilliard virtuoso Lyris Hung and comedic, political, lyrical wordplay from one of new york’s most celebrated solo performers (and fellow Juilliard graduate) Kate Rigg. They are two good Asian girls gone bad-assed.
