The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that Jackie Chan will receive an honorary Oscar at this year’s annual Academy Governors Awards.
Chan, who found success with American audiences following his role in “Rumble in the Bronx” and the “Rush Hour” films, had already amassed a near 30-year film career before his Hollywood break in the 1990s. As of today, Jackie Chan has 131 acting credits, 77 stunt credits, and 45 producing credits, according the Internet Movie Database, with projects scheduled for release in the latter half of 2016 through the end of 2017.
Outside of film, Chan has several business ventures. He has acted as a spokesperson for the government of Hong Kong and also has a film production company, his own clothing brand, and a South Korean hip-hop boy group under his South Korean management company. In addition, he has released upwards of musical 20 albums throughout his career.
Chan will be the fourth person of Asian descent to be bestowed with an honorary Oscar, joining directors Akira Kurosawa, Satyajit Ray, and Hayao Miyazaki.
