Saturday, October 22 to October 23 09:30am to 12pm
Korean American Family Service Center
Meadow Lake, Corona Park, New York, New York 11367
The Korean American Family Service Center (KAFSC) is the primary not-for-profit organization in the metropolitan New York area that comprehensively assists Korean and Korean American individuals affected by domestic violence, human trafficking, sexual assault, stalking and other social and mental health issues.
We run an emergency shelter in the community called the Rainbow House, which has sheltered over 125 women and children in the past 5 years, and provided over 2,000 shelter bed nights in 2014 alone.
In commemoration of October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we are hosting an Annual 5K Dash to End Domestic Violence on Saturday, October 22nd 2016, at Meadow Lake, Flushing Meadows-Corona Park. Our fundraiser invites the community to run or walk, shimmy, cupid shuffle a 5K race and raise funds for our Rainbow House emergency shelter.
This year, however, two Queens-based organizations, Garden of Hope and Arab-American Family Support Center, will join us for the Purple 5K, helping to raise awareness especially in our communities where issue of domestic violence has remained largely invisible and unvoiced. Runners may fundraise for one of three participating organizations: Arab-American Family Support Center, Garden of Hope, and KAFSC Rainbow House Shelter.
Come enjoy the crisp Autumn weather, and picturesque view of the waterfront pathways of Meadow Lake.
To participate in the Purple 5K Run/ Walk, please first register through Eventbrite: https://www.eventbrite.com
Online registration will remain open until 11:59 PM on Thursday, October 20th. Registration fee includes a KAFSC T-shirt and small giveaways.
