No.7 Ludlow St., New York NY 10002
A hard turnabout from his early, brutal thrillers, the poignant A Scene at the Sea displays a softer side of Kitano: the story of a deaf garbage collector (Kurôdo Maki) who, after digging a smashed up surfboard out of the trash, pursues a dream of riding the waves, all the while facing the derision of seasoned surfers and local yokels and supported by his nevertheless skeptical girlfriend (Hiroko Oshima).
