Join us for a free presentation of Act I & II of ANTON CHEKHOV’s classic play, “Uncle Vanya” adapted by ANNIE BAKER, directed by NANA DAKIN on Nov. 11-13 at Columbia University’s Schapiro Studio (605 W 115th St).
Drawing from her background as a half-Thai, half-American, director NANA DAKIN explores ANTON CHEKHOV’s classic play with an all ASIAN/ASIAN AMERICAN cast in relation to her experiences in Thailand. This fresh interpretation of “Uncle Vanya” invites audiences to contemplate what prevents us from changing the circumstances of our unhappiness.

SYNOPSIS:
Trapped by the heat and stillness of country life, the Voinitsky family struggles to adjust when the ailing Professor and his young wife Yelena move in. As the resentment and bitterness festers, Uncle Vanya believes his life and, everyone else’s, has amounted to nothing at all. Confronted with this new dynamic, each member of the family must ask themselves – is there still hope for happiness left?
