The American Buddhist Study Center will honor the legacy of Dr. Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki (1870-1966) on his 50th memorial anniversary. A true pioneer in a long line of internationally prominent Buddhist figures in America, D.T. Suzuki played a pivotal role in introducing Zen Buddhism and Shin Buddhism to the English-speaking world, and his books shaped the American public’s appreciation of Asian religions.
Suzuki is the first recipient of the American Buddhist Study Center’s “In Gratitude” Award, which recognizes his cosmopolitan Buddhist philosophy and intercultural point of view.
The ceremony is a celebration of Japanese culture in America, with a variety of presentations and performances.
