THE NEW SONG recital series presents an evening of vocal chamber music featuring new works by Japanese and American composers as well as traditional Japanese art songs rarely performed in the United States.
Ted Gorodetzky directs vocalist Daniel Neer in a diverse cross-cultural recital that explores the merging of East-meets-West themes in Japanese and American poetry and music. Neer, joined by pianist Erika Dohi, guitarist Jason Robert Taylor, and actor Sonoko Kawahara will present music by Masatora Goya, Karen Tanaka, Kaito Nakahori, and Ellen Mandel. There will be four significant world premieres:
“Masks” by Alex Burtzos
“Oshietekudasai” by Yui Kitamura
“Wanyudo: This Fire Wheel Thing” by fourteen-year old Yusei Hata
“Alnilam” by Jason Robert Taylor.
Traditional Japanese art songs by Haseo Sugiyama, Ikuma Dan, Tamezo Narita, and Tatsunosuke Koshitani are also featured on the program.
