EXHIBITIONS ON VIEW
With a Single Step: Stories in the Making of America
MOCA’s core exhibition, With a Single Step: Stories in the Making of America presents the diverse layers of the Chinese American experience, while examining America’s journey as a nation of immigrants. It interweaves the historical and political context of Chinese immigration to the United States with the personal stories and cultural traces of multiple generations to tie together three main threads:
• The relationship between China and the United States; and its impact on Chinese Americans
• How Chinese Americans have perceived themselves in American society (and been perceived) over time.
• The impact of Chinese Americans on American politics, culture, and life.
At the end of the exhibition, visitors will be able to interact with a Response Wall that encourage a shared dialogue on “How do feel about the future of America?”

Sour, Sweet, Bitter, Spicy: Stories of Chinese Food and Identity in America
What does Chinese food in America, in its dizzying variety, say about who we are—or are not— today? Set in an immersive video installation featuring 33 Chinese and Asian American chefs, the tapestry of tales that emerges is rich with immigration experiences, food memories, favorite dishes and cooking inspirations that define the culinary—and personal—identities of these chefs. Join us around the dinner table for a conversation about how food defines Chinese in America.
