Thu 27 Apr 2017 6:30pm – 10:30pm
Asia Society Museum
725 Park Avenue at 70th Street, New York, NY 10021
In celebration of our spring exhibition Secrets of the Sea: A Tang Shipwreck and Early Trade in Asia, on view at Asia Society Museum through June 4, 2017, join us for a stylish Reception with live music and pan-Asian tastes, followed by an elegant Dinner and Dancing. A selection of remarkable Tang era treasures from the permanent collection of the Asian Civilizations Museum in Singapore are on view for the first time in the United States.
During the Tang dynasty (618-906), a global culture flourished as China enjoyed strong diplomatic ties and exchanges of goods over land and sea. The Tang Dynasty Ball celebrates the multi-cultural splendor of the period as exemplified by the glory of Chang’an, the Tang capital. People, fashion, music, food, and commodities came together through active trade between China, Southeast Asia, and the Islamic Middle East during this period.
This fabulous and festive evening will feature leading figures from the worlds of art and fashion, along with musical entertainment, dinner and dancing. Our guest chef will create a tempting array of cuisines from across Asia. Visit the Museum galleries for a private viewing of the exquisite display of objects from the Tang dynasty. To top off the evening, the glass-ceilinged Garden Court will transform into a magical setting for dessert and dancing to the swinging sounds of the George Gee Orchestra.
