Materials for the Arts
33-00 Northern Boulevard, 3rd Floor, Long Island City
Join the Long Island City Cultural Alliance (LICCA) for an Art Stroll on Saturday, July 22nd. The stroll features a guided tour of Materials for the Arts (MFTA), and a special curators tour of the exhibition Tongue Tide, currently showing at the Flux Factory.
The program begins at MFTA, with a tour the current exhibition Twisted Woven Tied by artist in residence Dianne Smith and a tour of the impressive warehouse full of unique and inspiring reusable art materials made available for free to New Yorkers through the NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.
We will then walk to Flux Factory, where curators Christina Freeman and Emireth Herrera Valdes will give a tour of the current exhibition Tongue Tide. Inspired by our home borough of Queens, NY — the most language-dense area in the world– Tongue Tide explores the multitude of ways in which artists engage with language, investigating the ways in which we experience, use and understand words. See Tongue Tide in ArtFCity’s MUST SEE Guide.
Finally, the we will stroll over to the Windmill Community Garden for snacks and drinks. PLEASE NOTE: This walking tour is rain or shine. Good walking shoes are recommended.
