Is there a certain dish that immediately comes to mind when you think of “home”? Can you smell its aroma? Can you taste the first bite? Whether it’s homemade or store bought, food transcends language, distance, and time. For immigrant communities, food is home.
Come join NYU APAC for a half-day walking food tour of Flushing, Queens — a vibrant neighborhood rich with history that is home to a diverse community of immigrants — where we’ll eat to our heart’s content at local favorites and dig into a heaping side dish of conversations around identity, community, healing, and cultural memory. We’ll be grabbing lunch at Jade Asian Restaurant and then stopping for dessert as well as boba and other snacks along the way! Come hungry.
We will be meeting as a group in the lobby of Palladium and taking the subway together to Flushing. But, you also have the option of meeting us at Flushing, in front of the McDonald’s (136-61 Roosevelt Ave, Flushing, NY 11355).
Spots are limited and on a first come first serve basis. Please fill out the Google registration form (https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScw7BIloq_GNlZ28B0HVGuYoyzPfAkxUDPeooR2JmzirWScIg/viewform) if you would like to join!
