From 6 to 9 pm on Saturday, December 2nd we will open our doors for a free night of tours, special events, and activities in celebration of our recent expansion. We invite you to explore, listen, taste, and share your way through the stories of American immigration with complimentary tours of our two historic tenement buildings; “Six Words Fresh Off the Boat,” a story show; an Eight Flavors cooking demo with Sarah Lohman; a Your Story, Our Story gallery exhibit featuring Russ & Daughters, pop up performances, food tastings, and more.
Open House Building Tour Tickets: 6:30 pm, 7:00 pm, 7:30 pm, 8:00 pm, 8:30 pm
— Explore a floor of in one of our historic tenement buildings, visit the recreated apartments, businesses, and stories of immigrant families who started their life anew at 97 and 103 Orchard Street in the 19th and 20th centuries.

–Tickets will be available on first-come, first-serve basis [lspace is limited] in the Visitor Center during the open house.
Six Words Fresh Off the Boat Story Show: 6:30 pm, 7:45 pm
— Listen to contributors to the Six-Word Memoir project’s new collection of immigration narratives perform their stories. Storytellers include Sara Abou Rashed, Lee Sean Huang, Priya Ramanathan, and Janet Kirchheimer. At the show’s end, audience members are invited to share their own brief story during the “Six-Word Slam.”

Eight Flavors Demo with Sarah Lohman: 7:15 pm
— Learn the story behind Sriracha, one of the eight flavors featured in Sarah Lohman’s popular book, Eight Flavors: The Untold Story of American Cuisine, and its immigrant connections during this fascinating cooking demo. Sarah Lohman will also host a meet & greet after the program from 8 to 9 pm.

Your Story, Our Story with Russ & Daughters

— Moderated Panel with Russ & Daughters 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM
— Interact with our digital storytelling exhibit, Your Story, Our Story, and spend time with Niki Russ Federman and her staff from the iconic Lower East Side eatery, Russ & Daughters, as they present their own featured gallery. Take the opportunity to upload and share your own story in the digital exhibit while you’re here!
