On Monday, January 8, Flushing Town Hall will launch the winter-spring 2018 season with a news conference and preview performances illustrating the popular venue’s mission to offer global arts for a global community.
“In 2018, Flushing Town Hall will continue to travel the world without leaving Queens, giving audiences opportunities to discover, learn, and enjoy cultural offerings from near and far,” says Flushing Town Hall Executive and Artistic Director Ellen Kodadek. “Our new season illustrates our mission to bring people together, to embrace diversity, and to highlight the importance of culture in our lives. We invite all New Yorkers, and those visiting New York, to join us for inspiring and dynamic performances, presentations, workshops, and much more.”
The press conference will remarks from New York City Council Member Peter Koo, and feature members of Project Connect – a Flushing Town Hall Space Grantee – previewing their January 14 event, “Savoy! Dancing through the Swing Era,” and Zikrayat, spotlighting its May 4 Global Mashup performance “Egypt meets Haiti” with a wide repertory of Egyptian music ranging from exciting bellydance numbers to virtuosic improvisations.
This winter-spring, Flushing Town Hall will continue its popular Teen Access Program, which grants free entry to performances for 13- to 19-year-olds. This program encourages young people to engage with the magnificent arts opportunities in our community.
This season, Flushing Town Hall is opening its doors to teenagers – for FREE. Under the new “Teen Access Program”, all 13- to 19-year-old boys and girls (whether a member or not) will be welcomed to attend any performance for free. The program is designed to appeal to students and help foster a greater love in the arts and culture.
