April 4 from 4 – 7 pm
New York Hall of Science
We are extending Spring Break Games into the evening and adding virtual reality projects to the mix of games and projects you can enjoy alone or with a group. Meet game makers and play their games as you learn about their processes and inspirations. Interact with different virtual reality projects and be transported to different worlds as you learn about virtual reality technology and its potential.
To sustain you through your play, our dining partner Butter Beans will have a pop-up stand open.
The evening will include:
Design Lab will be set up with a plethora of house-made versions of some of our favorite childhood games. Think chess, Connect 4 and Checkers.
YokePokey Virtual Reality will be showcasing TheBlu, an underwater experience where you can explore the coral reef and swim with blue whales. This is a 6-minute experience and is recommended for anyone ages 7 years and up.
YokeyPokey’s goal is to provide family friendly immersive virtual reality experiences for all. Designers-in-Residence Killer Snails will be running Biome Builder. In Biome Builder, budding ecologists discover diverse creatures across four distinct biomes: Amazon Rainforest, American Prairie, Sahara Desert and Pacific Ocean. Players create food chains in this fast-paced card game but BEWARE! Action cards can upset the balance of these ecosystems. Race to build the richest food chains and ensure the survival of your biomes. Recommended for ages 7 and older. Game takes approximately 20 minutes to play.
Designer-in-Residence Jaehyun Kim will be running “If I Ride VR” workshops. Watch your imaginary world come to life before your eyes. Ride a bike through a VR environment you make yourself with Lego. Combine the joy and tactility of hands-on creation with the digital wonder of Virtual Reality and enjoy as this experience guides participants through a fun-filled craft session.
Free with NYSCI admission.
