The origins of Broadway theater-one of New York City’s most potent cultural symbols-can be traced back more than 200 years. Chinese drama, on the other hand, only emerged in the early 20th century. Although unique in form, many find it difficult to differentiate Chinese dramas from the country’s traditional operas. Dr. Teng Xiaopeng, a young director from the Shanghai Theatre Academy, will compare Chinese and American theater from her professional perspective by analyzing current popular performances. She will reveal a few things about Broadway that you may not already know!
