Introduction
Since the first book went on sale in 2002, the “My Darling is a Foreigner” manga series has sold more than 3 million copies. The humorous books follow the manga artist Saori Oguri and her American writer/language-freak husband Tony Laszlo from the days of their courtship through their marriage to the birth of their son.
Surpassing culture gap vignettes, the series establishes a unique space and its own particular warmth as it traces the process by which two people become very important to each other. They bridge the distance they sense between themselves, and over the months and years to come to a meeting of hearts and sometimes even minds.
The film “My Darling is a Foreigner” is a romantic comedy in which Saori (Mao Inoue), a Japanese girl, meets Tony (Jonathan Sherr), an American man. Sometimes colliding and sometimes talking past each other. They set out in search of that always elusive happy end.
