I am currently looking for Asian American community members/models who would be willing to sit for a portrait painting session anytime this summer (June/July). Each session takes about 4-5 hours, is compensated at $23/hour cash, and consists of a day of painting in your home, indoor place of choice, or at my art studio in Morningside Heights area of Manhattan.
Models will require the patience to sit for 4-5 hours. We take lots of breaks in between, and you can listen to your iPod/watch Netflix or read during the session. All ages considered.
Please email me at sc4143@columbia.edu if interested, and for more answers to any logistical questions for the portrait painting session. Please also feel free to forward this to any friends who might be interested.
Thank you so much for your kind support to help my art project come to life!
About Me: I am currently a Master of Fine Arts Painting/Visual Arts candidate at Columbia University School of the Arts in my final year. This summer, I will be painting a series of 6-8 portraits of specifically Asian/Asian-Americans living in NYC. I question the idea of visibility/invisibility and the identity politics of being Asian American. Recently, I’ve been thinking a lot about the lack of Asian American representation in paintings, in our Western art institutions, and/or creative media.
