For its fourth consecutive year, promoter Mia Min Yen’s Taiwanese Waves showcase collects some of Taiwan’s most inspiring talents for Summerstage. This year’s edition features an all-woman lineup from the island’s Mandarin music scene: The delicate ballads of the singer, radio DJ, and actress Wan Fang (萬芳), best known for singing the original theme for the 1993 romance film C’est la vie, mon chéri; The veteran guitar-less piano-rock band Tizzy Bac; The Paiwan singer A Bao (阿爆), and the Taipei-raised, New York-based emerging artist that has been on everyone’s radar 9m88.
Every year when we are curating Taiwanese Waves, we aim to cover the different gender and cultural groups, music genre, and dialogues from Taiwan; we want to showcase the world what this island can offer within the few hours of the show.
With our return to SummerStage for the 4th times, this year we celebrate WOMEN.
Women make waves, and we acknowledge women’s empowerment. We are so honored to have Paiwan artist ABAO (Aljenljeng Tjaluvie) to share her soulful voice and culture of the Paiwan Tribe; the Taipei-raised, New York-based emerging artist that has been on everyone’s radar 9m88; the legendary guitar-less piano-rock band Tizzy Bac; and multi-super-talent artist Wan-Fang, the female role model whose voice is full of healing power to you all.
Taiwanese Waves is set to touchdown once again in Central Park. On August 3rd, join us with Abao, 9m88, Tizzy Bac, and Wan Fang at SummerStage.
