May is Asian/Pacific American Heritage Month as per a federal decree in 1978. It’s a special time to honor the multi-ethnic community.
Flushing Town Hall will celebrate by streaming “Crazy Talented Asians & Friends” on its Facebook page in two distinct, free sessions in English on Saturday, May 30. It starts with fun via an hour of animated shorts at 6 pm. Then it becomes funny with a live comedy hour at 8:30 pm.
The films were selected from a pool of several hundred submissions based on their quality in art direction, storytelling, animation, production, and sound design. One depicts a mother and son who struggle to express their love for each other. Another follows two artists battling over space to paint their own way. The stress of urban living and making life choices are themes of others.
Otter Lee will host the comedy show, which features routines by Queens-based stand-up jokesters and members of Overstep Comedy, a troupe whose sketches cover a broad array of Asian-American experiences with humor. Lee actually cofounded Overstep. He also produced and co-organized NYC’s First Asian Comedy Festival in January 2020.
