Ring in the Year of the Rabbit at the Queens Center Mall’s festive Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, Jan 21st, 1 to 3PM on Level 2, Center Court to join us for Lion Dance, Chinese Dance, Kpop, and Music performance!
Performances Including:
Vivian Fang Liu & Students: Vivian was born in China and has studied music in the East and the West. She performed actively in the United States and Europe, venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, Hammerstein Hall, Gracie Mansion, Citi Field, and more recently was invited to perform at St. Smith Square in London. Vivian has been invited to judge many music competitions from the United States and China. She is also a piano adjudicator in New York State School of Music Association (NYSSMA). Vivian has a strong passion in teaching and her creative teaching approach is welcomed by the young musicians. Vivian holds her Master’s degree in classical piano performance at New York University and Music Education Master’s degree at Teacher’s College, Columbia University.
David James “DJ” Estioco: Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, David James “DJ” Estioco knew that he needed to stand out among his family of musicians. Surrounded by Gospel and Classical music, his taste in music did not settle for either but instead widened it. Influenced by melodically driven sounds by Illenium, Seven Lions, Avenged Sevenfold, Linkin Park and Charlie Puth, DJ’s unique sound combining vibes from contemporary rock, jazz, electronic and pop music enabled him to be a versatile and adaptable musician. Performing at various events from a piano duet at Kollaboration (2015) and Starmedia Entertainment Tour (2018) to spinning as a DJ at Electric Daisy Carnival (2016), Toyota at KCON (2016 – 2018), collabs with AJ Rafael (2017), Jules Aurora (2019), Jessica Sanchez (2021) and alongside Charlie Puth and Zedd (2017), opening for Shawn Wasabi (2019) on The Infinity with Hornblower Cruises and the annual NYC Crazy Rich Asians Gala (2019) and Joy Ruckus Club 3 + 4 (2021).
Valerina Young: Valerina was crowned ATV Miss Asia East Coast 2nd Runner Up in 2014 at the age of sixteen. At the time, she was a junior studying Vocal Music at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts. After being crowned, she set straight to work outside the classroom as a broadcast journalist for the Hong Kong based television station, Asia Television Limited (ATV) for an audience of nearly 100 million. Valerina also models for NYFW walking for numerous shows and independent designers, opening and closing for numerous collections. In addition to runway, she has also shot for numerous lookbooks and been in countless publications, even gracing the billboards of Times Square. Valerina emcees for galas, fashion shows, political campaigns, and fundraisers.
Honey Academy: Founded in 2015, Honey Academy has a space of 11,000 square feet, offering courses including Dance, Art, Music, After-school, State exams, English&Math, and Chinese. Honey Academy has invited more than 20 professional competition judges and university professors to teach their students every year. Honey Academy also has cooperated with the American Ballet Theater and Temple University and has helped many of its students to get into specialized high schools of arts and top universities. Committed to creating a high-quality display platform for the children in the community, students of Honey Academy have participated and won in numerous mainstream competitions in the United States and Europe.
AKF Dance Studio: Founded in 2008 and grew into five dance schools in China, AKF has won many golds in multiple dance competitions as well as having been featured in the media. In addition, AKF teachers have won the title of “International Outstanding Teacher.” They have led their students to win international dance competitions. In 2012, the company officially entered the American market to establish a dance studio in both Flushing and Long Island and has since grown into an influential studio for the Chinese community in New York City. AKFamily has since branched into handmade artisanal food and crafts. AKF members have gone on to work as backup dancers and choreographers for such Chinese celebrities as Huimei Zhang, Hanliang Zhong, Zhiqian Xue, and many others.
Lunar New Year crafts with Jenny W Chan: Jenny is an arts & crafts teacher and paper crafts designer in New York City. She has collaborated with The Rachael Ray Show, NASA, Good Housekeeping, Google, and more. She is the co-author of Creative Origami & Beyond, and her YouTube channel @OrigamiTree has over 37 million views. When she is not crafting, she records voice over and sings for Little Angel.
Story Read-Aloud with Pauline Huang: Pauline is a Chinese language and music educator, songwriter, mother of two, and a children’s book author! She has a passion for writing stories and songs to educate and influence young minds to inspire pride in Asian culture and curiosity about other cultures. She wrote a Chinese songbook series, ‘Rhythms and Tones’ with Robin Harvey in 2010 and 2012. Pauline will be sharing her new children’s book, A Mystery Race – A New Story About the Chinese Zodiac Animals in the Lunar New Year Celebration.
lululemon Fashion Show: In honor of the upcoming Year of the Rabbit, lululemon has dropped a new collection with the brand’s best-selling pieces reimagined in fresh prints and colors.
Asian Kids Fashion Show: Students from Sunflower Dance & Music Center, Golden Dream, RBH Center, and Ismart Music & Art Center will be showing off their traditional costumes and cultural clothes to celebrate their heritage with a runway fashion show.
Traditional Lion Dance: Lion dance is a form of traditional dance in Chinese culture and other Asian countries in which performers mimic a lion’s movements in a lion costume to bring good luck and fortune.
