Thousands of people rang in the Year of the Rabbit at the Queens Center Mall’s festive Lunar New Year Celebration on Saturday, Jan 21st, with Lululemon fashion show, lion dance, traditional Chinese dance, Kpop, and music performance!
At the eve of Lunar New Year, the Queens Center Mall was infused with energy as a lion dance performance took center stage, setting the tone for the day. The dance group then weaved through different stores in the mall, bestowing good luck and fortune upon the shoppers.
The Lunar New Year Celebration was elevated by two captivating runway fashion shows. The Asian Kids Fashion Show took the stage first, showcasing their traditional costumes and cultural attire to celebrate their heritage.
This was followed by the lululemon Fashion Show, featuring a new collection of the brand’s popular pieces, reimagined with fresh prints and colors, in honor of the upcoming Year of the Rabbit.
Kids can have a blast creating Lunar New Year crafts with Jenny W Chan and immersing themselves in the Story Read-Aloud with renowned children’s book author Pauline Huang.
Aside from being entertained by the performances, visitors to Queens Center can also immerse themselves in Pauline Shaw’s newest vinyl artwork, which was specially commissioned for the Center Court. Shaw’s artistry is apparent in her expert use of craft-based techniques like weaving and felting. Her sculptures, textiles, and installations draw inspiration from her personal history and age-old artistic traditions that have been handed down for generations. To create her stunning artwork for Queens Center, she incorporated paper cutouts from Chinese folk art and ancient Chinese wall tapestries discovered in museums across the United States.
