On Saturday, July 17th, the JapanTown Cool Japan festival will arrive on St. Mark’s Place in the East Village, NYC’s unofficial “Japan Town” with more than 100 Japanese restaurants and businesses. Home to a visible Japanese street culture, the East Village is a popular destination for the city’s young and trend-conscious crowd.
Highlighting the popular elements that make Japanese culture “cool,” this festival offers Japanese robots to antiques to favorite snacks such as yakimochi and okonomiyaki. Visitors are also invited to participate in a Japanese street fashion contest; winners receive a prize from a JapanTown sponsor.
