AsianinNY.com: Celebrating a Birthday in an Untraditional Way
– Spreading Joy at Cabrini Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation

New York, NY — When one of AsianinNY.com co-founders began thinking about a way to celebrate his birthday in February, he immediately ruled out the idea of a traditional party. Instead, they invited their friends to celebrate by joining AsianinNY.com in a day of service at Guy Kin Ling (Cabrini Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation), where approximately one-third of the aging residents are of Chinese descent. Nearly two-dozen busy young professionals turned out for the Sunday birthday volunteering event at the 240-bed non-profit skilled nursing facility on East 5th Street, Manhattan. The abundant smiles that resulted adorned the faces of both the residents and the visiting celebrants. The information technology and marketing specialist and his exuberant group of friends played modified athletic games with the residents, assisted them in activities, and helped transport them to programs. In one-on-one visits, participants who are bilingual delighted Chinese residents by conversing with them in their native language.

“We had a wonderful time at Cabrini,” said AsianinNY.com co-founders. “We will definitely do it again.” They encouraged friends and AsianinNY members who were unable to attend to make a donation to anyone in need. AsianinNY.com, created by 2 Asians who are true New Yorkers in August, 2008, is the first Asian networking site for those who are living or planning to live in New York City. The free-of-charge membership site is designed to serve as a resource for surviving and thriving in the City by providing daily information about jobs, housing, news, restaurants, local events, education, networking, travel, sample sales, and more.
