Korean designer and now New York based Yuna Yang presented her Fall 2011 collection during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at the Alvin Ailey Citigroup Theater on February 13, 2011 in New York City.
Yuna Yang FW 2011 collection titled “Bright Lights, Big city,” is derived from both the novel and the 1988 film of the same name. It is a story that brought her memories of her own first impressions of the city and of the women she met upon her arrival. New York is a dream city for girls all over the world where they come and grow.
Yuna took the concept of the urban city girl and applied it to her own take of the women in 21st century, using a range of materials including faux fur, metallic embroidery and lace trim, metallic knits, and camel cashmere. When AsianInNY interviewed her, Yuna describes her FW2011 collection as a conclusion of her research about the feminist movement throughout the history of American women and we truly loved all the colors, form of the design and her attention to details. We also enjoyed watching her presentation sitting at comfortable theater chairs. What a nice idea of having her show at Alvin Ailey theater!
