AsianinNY.com Hosts Moon Festival Event to Raise Funds for Typhoon Morakot Victims

New York, NY (Oct 2nd, 2009) – AsianinNY.com, New York’s leader in Asian networking and a multi-cultural sharing site, will host a Harvest Moon Festival event on Oct 9th 2009 from 7pm to 10pm at Bennett Media Studio (723 Washington St., NY) to raise funds for Typhoon Morakot victims. On August 8th, 2009, Taiwan suffered from Typhoon Morakot, which caused the loss of hundreds of lives and millions of dollars in damages. The Moon Festival Event will be dedicated to friends and families whose lives have been altered by this tragedy, and a celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival. Many amazing performers will be featured including singer Ai Gao, performer/songwriter Ayesha Adamo, music producer Ed Bennett, singer/dancer Cher Jia Sun, talk show host/singer Dusty Wright and spoken word artist Kelly Tsai will take part in this charity event to help with the fundraising for the reconstruction of Taiwan. The 2008 Koan J. Baysa Award Recipient New-York based Chinese artist Yu Zhang will also present an exhibition of her new series of oil paintings during this event.

New York, NY — When one of AsianinNY.com co-founders began thinking about a way to celebrate his birthday in February, he immediately ruled out the idea of a traditional party. Instead, they invited their friends to celebrate by joining AsianinNY.com in a day of service at Guy Kin Ling (Cabrini Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation), where approximately one-third of the aging residents are of Chinese descent. Nearly two-dozen busy young professionals turned out for the Sunday birthday volunteering event at the 240-bed non-profit skilled nursing facility on East 5th Street, Manhattan. The abundant smiles that resulted adorned the faces of both the residents and the visiting celebrants. The information technology and marketing specialist and his exuberant group of friends played modified athletic games with the residents, assisted them in activities, and helped transport them to programs. In one-on-one visits, participants who are bilingual delighted Chinese residents by conversing with them in their native language.
