Following his successful introduction of Rakugo (Japanese traditional storytelling) for the first time in Sri Lanka, Katsura Sunshine is going to make his first tour in Canada and the U.S. in 2013. LaGuardia Community College is pleased to host his performance in New York City on Monday, September 30, 2013. Katsura Sunshine, a non-Japanese professional rakugo-ka (storyteller) who has endured a strict and highly traditional apprenticeship to a well-known Rakugo Master Katsura Bunshi VI. His performance remains in the traditional style of kneeling on a cushion in a simple kimono with only a Japanese fan and hand towel for props, but Sunshine’s witty stories fill the linguistic and cultural distances between Japan and the U.S. Admission to this event will be FREE of charge to the general public on a first come first served basis.
This event is supported by LPAC, LaGuardia Community College, the Japan Foundation, and the Consulate-‐General of Japan in New York.
